It washes and dries really quickly, and hardly sheds. That lovely, scruffy topcoat of hers is relatively soft, and not wiry. I hadn't considered a spaniel, but I wouldn't rule it out. I haven't been able to find a reference to it, but I seem to remember something about Corgis nipping cattle at their front legs instead of their heels. I don't see Corgi in her features, but I've also wondered about Corgi because she chases and nips at my larger dog's front feet when he runs. She could be mixed with JRT, but she doesn't behave like one (TG), and she doesn't have that JRT musculature or jaw strength (she has a weirdly weak bite). She's much different from Podengo in body shape though. Do Cairns do that? Could it be diet related or something? No idea what she used to eat, but she's now on about 50:50 Innova dry with raw and/or cooked meat and bones. Floppy ears becoming erect makes sense, but erect ears flopping over for no apparent reason confuses me. Now both ears flop over, and it's constant. Then about 1 week ago I noticed 1 would flop over. Interestingly, 3 weeks ago both her ears were perfectly erect. She's happy here though, and I'm confident those scars will heal. It makes me think she wasn't trained, but she was punished. Previous home reported submissive urination, but I've seen none. Are Cairns normally that responsive? It's amazing recall for any dog, but for a terrier.? It's apparently the only training she's had in her life except 'no,' which is sadly the only word she knows. I can call her back from a dead-run, or from chasing a rodent through thick understory. Her recall seems too good to be terrier though. I'm new to Cairns though, so maybe they have smaller teeth than typical terriers.įrom what I've read, she mostly acts like a Cairn - wonderful, bright, bubbly, happy, energetic, athletic, and intelligent.

Her teeth also don't look large enough to be terrier teeth to me. She looks like a Cairn, except she's about half & half tan patches with white, and her tail curls over. I think she's a mix, but have no idea what with.

If she's purebred Cairn, she's not well-bred. She does still act very puppy-like though. I'd put her around 1.5-2 years by tooth wear and calculus - assuming Cairn teeth don't stain or wear faster than the average dog. I was told she was 9 months old, but there's no way.
